The transfer window is three weeks old and Manchester United have already made a signing with the arrival of Swansea City winger Daniel James.
The club has been linked with several players and could be about to lose one of their major targets to rivals Tottenham. Spanish tabloid Estadio Deportivo revealed that a delegation of key Real Betis officials arrived England to initiate talks with Manchester United over a potential transfer of Giovani Lo Celso to England.
However, Lo Celso prefers a move to Champions League finalists Tottenham as he is keen to play for fellow countryman Mauricio Pochettino.
Lo Celso is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Spain after impressing this season at Real Betis. The former PSG star is a complete midfielder with the ability to play in both advanced roles and central midfield.
It is understood that Betis have already rejected an initial offer of around £53 million from Tottenham as they value the midfielder for £70 million.
Tottenham have several advantages over Manchester United in this situation as the North London club boast of two of his former teammates Lucas Moura and Serge Aurier.
In-addition, the London club has a stable blueprint which would make him adapt properly unlike at Old Trafford where there would be more pressure on him to deliver.
Manchester United still has the upper hand in terms of financial means as £70 million is not a lot of money for the club believed to have a transfer budget of £300 million.
His next destination would be clearer in coming weeks as he is currently on international duties with Argentina in the Copa America.
Lo Celso enjoyed his personal best season scoring 16 goals and producing five assists in 45 appearances for the Seville based club.
