Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is set to personallyhold talks with Cesc Fabregas over convincing him to elongate his contract to continue playing for his club.
Cesc Fabregas who is being targeted by AC Milan, is not happy with his irregular playing time since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri early in the summer.
The club’s proprietor still wants him at the club though and has made his intentions known to the 30-year-old Spanish player who seem rather unsatisfied with the positional change at the club when ask to feature.
Chelsea have a policy in place where players above 30 are not given long contracts. They are given piecemeal contract extension which is susceptible to changes based on how they keep performing at the club.
This is an arrangement Fabregas is not satisfied with and hence the need for Abramovich intervention as he still holds the player in high regards and wants him to remain with Chelsea.
Similarly, Sarri wants the former Barcelona star to remain at the club to serve as a cover for Jorginho at the base of the midfield.
Hopefully, the Spaniard’s future will be sorted soon enough by the rich owner or permitted to join whichever club he chose if the situation cannot be managed.
Chelsea had a great game against Manchester City where they inflicted on them their first league defeat. The collective performance was impressive after two prior defeats to Tottenham and Wolverhampton.
