Arsenal are close to signing Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba according to Metro. The Gunners have been in the race to sign the player for a while and the deal looks to be on the verge of completion.
It is understood that the 18-year-old has accepted a contract from the Gunners and would be expected to move this summer following a bid worth €25 million plus €5m in bonuses from Arsenal. Saliba is regarded as one of the top young talents in France and enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for the club last season.
His cool demeanor under pressure and ability to play out from the back has drawn comparisons with Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane. Saliba is also versatile and can also fill in the right back position which has been an issue for the club following the long-term injury of Hector Bellerin.
Arsenal have made a drastic shift in transfer policy since the arrival of Unai Emery due to the financial constraints of the club. It is understood that the club has just £40 million to spend on players.
Emery has shown his ability to transform young players during his debut season at the Emirates bringing out the best from Lucas Torreira and Mateo Guendouzi.
It remains to be seen if the club would be able to confirm the deal in the following days.
