Arsenal are reportedly close to finalizing the transfer of highly-rated French defender William Saliba.
We have been reporting about this transfer in the past few weeks but it appears that a deal has been reached between the player and the club.
It is understood that Tottenham’s late interest in the defender has seen the Gunners accelerate things a little faster.
According to reports from France the Emirates outfit have reached out to the player’s representatives and agreed on personal terms with the youngster.
Saliba is considered as one of the hottest young talents in French football after his breakthrough campaign last season. He was able to feature in 16 league matches for Saint-Etienne last campaign and put in exceptional performances.
Arsenal are keen on the player and have been locked in negotiations with the French side over the £26 million transfer fee for the defender. In-addition Saint-Etienne are pushing to have the defender back on-loan next season.
Arsenal have a limited transfer budget of about £40 million and it is unlikely that the club would be willing to spend a large chunk of it on a player that would be loaned out next season.
The next few days would provide an indication of how the transfer is likely to end as this is the last week before pre-season.
