Premier League side Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Lorient striker Alexis Claude-Maurice. According to reports from England, the North London club have opened negotiations with the Ligue 2 club for a potential transfer.
The Daily Express claims that Claude-Maurice has been a long-term target for the Gunners and the club had sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old.
According to the report, the French prodigy is available for around £9 million and Arsenal are ready to meet his valuation. It is understood that AS Monaco and Eintracht Frankfurt are also interested in signing the young forward.
However, Arsenal have the advantage due to their financial strength and are overwhelming favourites to secure the transfer. Claude-Maurice was one of the star performers for Lorient this season.
He scored 14 goals in 35 matches to finish as the club’s top scorer in the French second division. He is also highly rated in France with his pace and shooting ability part of his strengths.
If Claude-Maxim makes the move he would be joining former Lorient midfielder Matteo Guendouzi at the Emirates stadium. Guendouzi moved from Lorient last summer in a transfer worth £7 million and has quickly emerged as a mainstay in the first team.
Claude-Maxim would be hoping to follow a similar path and become a starter at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
