Arsenal are reportedly interested in the signing of highly rated Basel defender Eder Balanta according to reports from England.
The Gunners failed to qualify for the Uefa Champions League, finishing off the top 4 places and losing to rivals Chelsea in the Europa League Finals.
This development means that manager Unai Emery would have less money to spend to strengthen the squad this summer. It is understood that Emery is looking to bolster the defence and Balanta fits the type of player he wants.
The Colombian defender has excelled at the back during his time at Switzerland and helped the team finish second in the league this season.
It is believed that Balanta is open to leaving the club in the summer with the player having just a year left on his current contract. Basel are willing to cash-in on the player rather than risk loosing him on a free next season.
A fee of £4million has been mooted as a potential transfer fee for the 26 year-old with Arsenal currently favourites to sign the defender.
Balanta was an ever present in the Basel lineup this season featuring 31 times in the League and he has so far spent three seasons at the Swiss club.
