Arsenal are reportedly getting close to signing Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba according to the latest news from France. The Guardian claims that Arsenal are on the brink of completing a €30m (£27m) transfer for the defender.
It is understood that Arsenal have also agreed to loan Saliba back to Saint-Etienne next season as part of the deal.
The 19-year-old is considered as one of the top young defenders in the French league and enjoyed an impressive debut campaign. The French u21 defender made 19 appearances last season helping Saint Etienne to one of their best defensive records in the league.
Saliba is seen as a long-term option for the Gunners and this looks like a done deal for the club. Arsenal have so far struggled to bring in quality signings this summer and have only announced the arrival of Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli.
However, the club have been linked to the likes of Wilfred Zaha and Yannick Carrasco in recent weeks as they look to bolster their squad. This transfer would take a chunk off the current transfer kitty believed to be around £45 million.
It would be interesting to see how this transfer would pan out in the coming days as we come closer to the beginning of season.
