Arsenal are among a list of clubs reportedly interested in signing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld. According to reports, the 30-year-old defender has attracted a host of clubs due to his low release clause.
The Belgian international is said to have a release clause of £25 million which can be triggered at the end of the season. Alderweireld has developed into one of the top defenders in England under the watch of Mauricio Pochettino and would be a major plus to any side. It is understood that Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle for his signature.
Manchester United have been long-time admirers of the player with the Red Devils reportedly close to a deal last summer. It is believed that new United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a huge fan of the defender and would look to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery is also looking to spend shrewdly as a result of the lack of transfer funds at the club and Alderweireld is seen as a no-brainer by the Spanish tactician. However, a transfer from Spurs to Arsenal would be difficult to broker due to the long-standing rivalry between the clubs.
It looks most likely that the hard-tackling defender would leave White Hart Lane in the summer but could sign-off on a right note if he can lead the team to the UEFA Champions League title come June.
