Aston Villa have announced the capture of Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes on a permanent summer transfer.
It is reported that the newly promoted side have agreed to pay £22m for the services of the striker, which smashes their personal record since the £19m transfer of Darren Bent in 2011.
The 22-year-old, who has been proclaimed to be ‘the new Benteke’, has completed his medical and all that is left is the player’s work permit to be issued by the Home Office.
This comes as a shock as the striker was strongly linked with a move to Italian club Lazio last week. It was also reported that the player would either join Lazio or Newcastle before talks of a £22m move to Villa filtered out this week.
The Brazilian is expected to deliver the goals for the Birmingham-based club who recently gained promotion into the English Premier League after they were relegated in 2016.
Wesley recorded 38 goals and laid on 14 assists in 130 games during his time at Club Brugge which includes a brace against Monaco in the UEFA Champions League group match.
Wesley is the third of many signings to arrive this summer following the permanent capture of Anwr El Ghazi from Lille and Jota from Birmingham.
The Villans are also targeting Leeds United Midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
