Aston Villa are set to table a bid for Southampton defender Matt Targett, it is claimed.
Sky Sports are reporting that Villa are in talks over a deal that would see Targett make a permanent move to the club.
Villa are confident of reaching an agreement as Southampton are ready to sell if any club meets their valuation of the player. To that effect, It is reported that The Villans are ready to dole out £8m for the services of the left-back.
Most Villa fans would remember Targett, as he was part of the Fulham team which defeated the Midlands club in the Championship play-off final a year ago.
The 23-year-old is expected to offer stiff competition to Neil Taylor for the left-back spot. He is however considered surplus to requirement at the St. Mary’s Stadium having failed to nail a spot in the first team.
The England u21 player can also play as a left-winger when called upon. He recorded 1 goal and 3 assists in 16 Premier League games for the Saints last term as he played second fiddle to Ryan Bertrand.
Upon completion of this deal, Targett would be the fifth signing of the summer following the announcements of Wesley from Club Brugge, winger Jota from rivals Birmingham, Anwar El Ghazi from Lille, and Kortney Hause from Wolves.
