Aston Villa have entered talks with RB Leipzig to sign attacker Jean-Kevin Augustin according to reports from Europe. Football tabloid Football Insider claims that the Premier League side have inquired about how much the player would cost.
The report further reveals that Aston Villa see Augustin as an alternative signing to Nael Maupay who recently signed for Brighton & Hove Albion.
Augustin is expected to cost less than the £15 million that Brighton paid for Maupay but would still cost over £10 million.
The forward has fallen down the pecking order at Leipzig with the likes of Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen ahead of him. He made just four Bundesliga starts last season scoring three goals in all competitions for the club.
It is surprising that Aston Villa are moving for the player despite his poor scoring record last season. However, Augustin is known for his excellent work rate and would be behind record signing Wesley Moraes on the pecking order if he makes the move to Villa Park.
Aston Villa are well stocked ahead of the new season with the club strengthening in the crucial defensive and forward positions. The club have also done a bulk of the deals early which means that manager Dean Smith has been able to work with his new players in training.
