Liverpool are reportedly close to signing Lille ace Nicolas Pepe according to reports from France.
French news outlet RMC reports that the Liverpool are preparing a bid of £80 million for the 23-year-old forward. RMC reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi claims that Lille have confirmed that they have begun talks with the Reds over a transfer.
“Lille discusses with Liverpool,” Bouhafsi replied to a Liverpool fan on Twitter. “Off the record, Lille confirms that. The player is talking to Liverpool.
“Liverpool is not all alone on the player. Now we are waiting for his decision.”
Pepe has emerged as one of the hottest talents that have been linked to virtually all the top clubs in Europe.
The Ivory Coast international enjoyed one of his best seasons for Lille last season scoring 22 goals in all competitions second only to PSG’s Kylian Mbappe.
His ability to play in all positions upfront has made him a priority for Liverpool as they look to bolster their squad.
The Reds are ready to spend big this summer as they look to win the much coveted Premier League title. Jurgen Klopp’s side narrowly missed out of the title to Man City by a single point despite registering a club record 97 points.
Pepe’s arrival would bring strength in depth for the Anfield club and could be the difference for the club next season.
This transfer looks likely as Bouhafsi was the same reporter that broke the news of Liverpool signing Fabinho last summer.
