Manchester United may be searching for new legs but they are also making moves to agree new deals with some of their existing players going into the new season.
According to report from the Sun, The Red Devils are currently negotiating with Spanish international David de Gea over a deal to tie him down to a new contract.
It is reported that United have offered the goalkeeper a deal worth £300,000 per week which would see him emerge as one of the top earners at club. It is also reported that De Gea has shelved his plans of leaving the club amidst reports of a potential transfer this summer.
De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and PSG this summer but both clubs are yet to firm their offer for the 28-year-old. Perhaps the lack of suitors has triggered a change of mind but it all works in Man United’s favour.
It is reported that United are ready to offer as high as £350k per week to convince the player to remain at the club. United, however, are increasingly confident that De Gea would put pen to paper before the 2019/20 season commences.
Failure to agree a new deal would see the Spanish international leave on a free transfer next season but that looks unlikely with this latest development.
De Gea conceded 54 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season. The goalie only kept seven clean sheets and eventually lost his place in the Spanish national team to Chelsea goalie Kepa Arrizabalaga.
