Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Algeria forward Yacine Brahimi according to reports from England.
Portuguese tabloid A Bola reveals that the Gunners have beating competition from Turkish trio Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Galatasaray for the player. Brahimi has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a long time and it looks like he could make his long-awaited move this summer.
The Porto forward is out of contract which means that Arsenal will not pay any fee for the 29-year-old winger.
According to the report, Brahimi would be paid around £3.5 million as a sign-on bonus to make the move and would be expected to sign the contract after the AFCON tournament.
Brahimi is considered a skillful winger with the ability to create chances out of nothing. Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been given a budget of £40 million for new signings and Brahimi fits the bill of a bargain signing.
The club has been linked with bringing wide forwards with the likes of Carrasco and Wilfred Zaha linked with moves. However, both players command a sizeable transfer fee which makes it difficult for the club to complete deals.
There has been an initial wave of disappointment about the news by fans but Brahimi is a decent player capable of contributing to the attack.
Here’s what the fans have been saying about the latest development.
Yacine Brahimi might not be the kind of winger the Arsenal fans want but I think he could do a decent job. In his 5 years at Porto he has 53G & 43A and will definitely be some sort of an upgrade. #Arsenal #afc #arsenaltransfernew #yacineBrahimi

I’m sorry but Yacine Brahimi is bobbins. He’s been average for Porto for years, he isn’t even a starter for Algeria and I’d rather promote Amaechi/Saka than pay this guy £70k + in wages. What a TERRIBLE bit of business if it happens.
Arsenal need to WTFU!
