Despite reports to contrary, the Blues are yet to make a formal offer for managerial target Frank Lampard.
Maurizio Sarri has agreed a deal to join Italian giants Juve and it is expected that a new manager is announced in coming days. However, Sky Sports are reporting that Derby County are in talks over a deal to extend Lampard’s contract with the club.
The Rams are understood to be keen on discussing fresh terms with the manager despite him still having two years left on his current contract. They are eager to have him stay but will not prevent him from leaving if he tenders a resignation letter.
Further report from BBC can confirm that there is a £4m clause which would be triggered should Roman Abramovich come calling for the 40-year-old.
However, Lampard remains odds-on favourite to be the next Chelsea manager when Sarri ends his unhappy marriage with the west London club this summer.
This will come as a shock to the Chelsea fans who were hoping to see their legend take charge of club next season.
To make matters worse, another favourite, Max Allegri, has announced a one-year sabbatical leave and that makes him unavailable for the Chelsea job.
Some Chelsea fans are of the opinion that Lampard is quite inexperienced for a managerial role at Chelsea whilst others think he would be a good fit, having spent over a decade (13 years) as a player at the club.
