Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been identifying targets for next season as the club looks to challenge for titles. One player that has been linked to the club in recent weeks is Lorient’s forward Alexis Claude-Maurice.
According to reports from France, the Gunners are moving quickly to swoop for the 20-year-old forward. Claude-Maurice is viewed as one of the rising talents in France with his pace and goalscoring ability a key attribute of his game.
It is believed that Emery is looking to sign the forward for around £9 million as a backup option to Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Fringe player Danny Welbeck has spent the majority of the season injured and the England international is expected to leave the club at the end of his contract by July.
Claude-Maurice would be expected to replace the 28-year old and also serve as an option for the wide positions. Norwich City are also reportedly interested in the forward but Arsenal remains favourites to land the striker.
The 20-year-old was one of the best players for Ligue 2 side Lorient this season scoring 14 goals in all competitions. If the transfer is completed he would be joining fellow Lorient graduates Laurent Koscielny and Matteo Guendouzi at the Emirates.
