Christian Pulisic: “I grew up watching Lampard”

The arrival of Frank Lampard at Chelsea this offseason has been greeted with delight by Chelsea supporters as they welcome one of their legends to the hot seat.

So far the initial response from Chelsea players have been positive as they look towards working with the 41-year-old. One player that would be entering his debut season with the club is USA international Christian Pulisic.

The 20-year-old made the move from German side Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea in January but was allowed to remain on loan until the end of the season.

The speedy winger is back in training just nine days after featuring in the Gold Cup final defeat to Mexico.

Speaking to GAFFER MagazinePulisic revealed that manager Lampard was one of his childhood heroes. According to him he grew up idolizing the former England international and was delighted to be playing under his tutelage.

‘When I think of this club, there’s a lot of great players that come to mind. I grew up watching Frank Lampard and all of those guys at the top of their game in the Premier League and in the Champions League.

“To me, Chelsea were always one of the biggest teams and now to be playing here, it’s really come full circle from that moment. It feels amazing.”

A lot is expected from Pulisic as he is effectively replacing club icon Eden Hazard in the left forward role. Hazard made his long-awaited move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Pulisic would have to step up if he is to win Chelsea fans hearts.

He has all the qualities to succeed and at just 20 he can still improve his game to become a well rounded forward.
