Liverpool are reportedly seeking the services of a new defender and a central defender this summer.
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Jurgen Klopp is keen on signing Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer. It is reported that the boss will not hear of another defender even for a lesser fee and that has seen the club move in to get this deal over the line.
The same report suggests that he Reds are willing to pay premium fee for the centre back who is valued at €60 million (£53.5 million).
There is a bidding war going on for the player’s services, however, the idea of pairing De Ligt and Virgil van Dijk is a motivating factor for the Merseysiders.
PSG are reported to have offered the 19-year-old a whooping €340,000-per-week deal in a bid to lure him to France.
The likes of Juventus and Barcelona are also reportedly confident that they could get the player and it is reported that the De Ligt is expected to make a decision in coming weeks.
Albeit a defender, De Ligt has shown he can also deliver goals, as he scored six goals for Ajax, on par with Van Dijk recorded this season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to offload centre-back Dejan Lovren to AC Milan for a a fee around £25m.
