Liverpool have reportedly emerged favourites for the transfer of Ajax 19-year-old captain Matthijs de Ligt after a wonderful season in Netherland.
The Netherland international defender is hugely talented but his value have soured since his showing in the Champions League especially against Real Madrid and Juventus.
A host of clubs were interested in swooping for him such as Manchester United, Barcelona, PSG and Liverpool. However, it seems Liverpool along with Barcelona are now his preferred destination.
Manchester United were thought to be hugely interest in securing his service given that the club needed him most but it is argued that the player has turned them down because of their inability to qualify for next season champions league .
Also, PSG have been ruled out because of the kind of money his agent commands. So that leaves Barcelona and Champions League holder – Liverpool, in the race to secure his services for a long term if reports are to be believed.
In another report, it is rumoured that United have decided not to pursue the player because the manager, OGS trusts the defense available to him and wants to develop them.
For what’s worth, de Ligt will be an ultimate signing if Liverpool can secure his services and pay is super agent Raniola the humongous sum he commands.
But I personally doubt if Liverpool will be willing to part with the huge sum required to secure his services with the likes of Matip, Joe Gomez and Lovren all good defenders alongside Van Dijk.
