Champions League holders Liverpool have emerged as a surprise contender for the signature of Paris FC striker Silas Wamangituka.
Sports outlet Inside Futbol claims the Reds have joined Benfica in making formal bids for the 21-year-old attacker. Wamangituka was one of the outstanding players for the Ligue 2 side scoring 11 goals in 32 appearances last season.
His hold-up play and ability to shoot from distance has led to several clubs in Europe indicating interest in his services. Marseille, Galatasaray, and Toulouse are among a host of clubs that are monitoring his progress.
It is understood that the clubs are preparing a €6million bid for the youngster. Wamangituka would be a decent addition for the Liverpool team. The Reds are finding it difficult in convincing quality forwards to agree on a move to the club.
The front three of Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane are well established and any player signed would be handed a fringe role. Wamangituka is a versatile forward capable of playing the three positions up front.
His low transfer value also makes it a good signing for the Anfield outfit. The Reds have also been linked with Lille forward Nicolas Pepe as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
