The transfer window has seen several clubs linked with big money transfers but Liverpool have been quiet in the transfer window. This is understandable as they have one of the best squads in European football.
However, the club’s major weakness is their dependence on the front three of Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane.
Former Liverpool footballer Steve Nicol believes that Jurgen Klopp can resolve this issue by bringing Philippe Coutinho back to the club. Speaking on an ESPN podcast show Nicol urged the club to move for the player as he would fit perfectly to the club.
“Somebody like a Coutinho I think would be ideal for Liverpool”
“You’ve got a front three right now in [Roberto] Firmino, [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah who are fantastic. But they need a break, they need to be able to step off the field to keep themselves fresh for the challenge ahead.”
Coutinho is player that divides opinions at the club due to the nature of his exit in January 2018. The Brazillian was well-loved at the club but forced a move from the club in the middle of the season.
His time at Barcelona has been far from perfect and his case is similar to Cesc Fabregas who never found his touch at the Spanish club.
Nicol is right as Coutinho remains a quality player as seen in the Copa America where he has become the main player for the team due to the injury to Neymar.
Notwithstanding, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool would be willing to pay £100 million for the player when they can get Bruno Fernandes or Nabil Fekir for half the price.
