Premier league table toppers, Liverpool have been hit with injuriesto impressive Joe Gomez and indomitable Joel Matip.
Reports are also available that Dejan Lovren will miss the match against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday after picking up an hamstring injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday in an FA Cup tie.
Liverpool’s defence prior to the defeat to Wolves have done an excellent job, with Virgil Van Dijk and Dejan Lovren being the only two senior defenders available since early December.
Now that Lovren has joined the injury list, it is left to be seen how Jurgen Klopp will manage the defence until when his top defenders return from injuries.
In the match where Lovren was injured, the German tactician introduced 16-year-old Ki-Jana-Hoever as a replacement in a makeshift defence that also saw defensive midfielder Fabinho featured.
Lovren might not command a lot of support from the fans but his improvement in the past year has been obvious for all to see. Although, his occasional lapse in concentration can sometimes be irritating as well.
In the club’s first defeat in the league, Lovren was to blame for the first goal because he was caught feet dragging by Kun Aguero. A moment that saw the Croat being hugely criticised by the fans.
Aside the infrequent lapse in concentration, he has been fantastic for the team since he regain fitness after sustaining a stomach injury at the World Cup hosted in Russia.
It is left to see what central defensive pairing the manager will opt for against well organised Brighton following the reports of an hamstring setback to Lovren.
