Liverpool enjoyed an eventful campaign last season, pushing Manchester City all the way in the league and winning the Champions League.
Amid a quiet transfer window the club are looking forward to next season with optimism of winning that elusive Premier League trophy.
Manager Jurgen Klopp gave an update about the current state of his squad during the pre-season tour of America.
Klopp revealed that star strikers Mohammed Salah, and Roberto Firmino had been given an extended break due to international assignments.
According to the German tactician the duo would have three weeks of holidays and would resume back to training in France by the beginning of August.
He also spoke that the season schedule which sees the club face Man City in the community Shield, and Chelsea in the Super Cup means that the players would need sufficient rest to execute this matches.
Sadio Mane is a peculiar case as the Senegal international is still in action for his country as they face Algeria in the AFCON final. Klopp believes that the club would have to access him after the tournament to see how he feels before making a final decision.
“We have to see. The good thing is, when you have a short break you don’t lose a lot.
“They needed three weeks and so we told them [to take it], but they train now again already.
“I would have preferred it if they had come back after a week, but that would make absolutely no sense! So, [they have] these three weeks and then we will have them here for pre-season.”
“With Sadio, we have to see about him after the final – how he is feeling and stuff like that,” said the manager.
Liverpool are regarded as one of the favourites for the Premier League and Klopp would be looking to lay an early market with victories over Manchester City and Chelsea.
