Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been forced to play reserve players for large parts of the pre-season. His key stars Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firminho, Alisson Becker, and Sadio Mane have been unable to return early due to international assignments.
The quartet is currently on holidays which has seen Liverpool record two consecutive pre-season defeats to top European sides, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla.
After this game, Liverpool have two more friendly games to play before the start of the season. It is understood that Firmino, Alisson and Salah are expected to resume training in the coming days and could play in next Wednesday clash against Lyon.
Midfielders Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita are still sidelined with injuries and are battling to be fit for the start of the season. Nathaniel Clyne suffered an unfortunate ACL injury and is expected to be out for at least six months while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is suffering from a slight knock.
This means that Klopp is most likely to play a young side in this weekend’s game against Napoli at Murrayfield. Belgium forward Divork Origi has been impressive so far and would be looking to impress ahead of the new season.
Liverpool recorded a 5-0 victory over Napoli in the pre-season friendly played last summer, but we expect Napoli to outscore their opponents. Over 2.5 goals, priced at 1.70, looks quite likely to happen in this game.
