Manchester United are preparing a huge bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly according to reports from Italy.
Italian tabloid Corriere dello Sport reveals that the Red Devils have placed the 27-year-old at the top of their transfer list alongside Ajax ace Matthijs de Ligt.
It is believed that United have made a transfer bid of £84 million for the player as they look to bolster their defensive options.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed a sizeable transfer kitty to strengthen the squad with a number of players linked to the club.
Koulibaly has been repeatedly linked with a transfer to United in the last two summer transfer windows. The Senegalese international is widely regarded as the best defender in Italy and has been a key figure for Napoli this season.
The £84 million fee being touted would beat the existing record for a defender held by Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dirk.
Koulibaly is a world-class player and capable of transforming United’s defence. The 27-year-old boasts a combination of power and defensive positioning which makes him one of the best in the world.
It would be a major coup for the Red Devils if they can secure the signing of Koulibaly.
