Manchester United are hoping to sign Leicester City defender Harry Maguire this summer but face stiff competition from close rivals Manchester City.
It is reported that United are willing to pay £65million to oust Man City in the race for the centre-back.
United have ended their pursuit of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and now seem focused to sign Maguire after completing the transfer of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Red Devils are making conscious steps to avoid a repeat of last season’s defensive woes which saw punters cash out as thee club conceded goals week in, week out.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to fill the void in the United defence with homegrown talents. However, they may have to pay a premium for Maguire’s services as Leicester are asking for over £75m which would equal the amount Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in January 2017.
Man United have held talks with Leicester in recent weeks and are increasingly confident of signing the 26-year-old. It appears Maguire is United’s main target as there are no reports of the club chasing any centre-back save for Koulibaly.
Maguire has seen his stock rise since his £17m move to the King Power stadium in 2017. He is no doubt a quality defender who exudes confidence when tracking down opposing attackers.
It remains to be seen if United will win the race for Maguire as some sources claim he prefers playing for Pep Guardiola.
