Manchester United have been linked with a surprise swoop for Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi. It is reported by ESPN that Manchester United have been offered Mauro Icardi as part of a direct swap deal for Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku.
The Italian club are keen on signing Lukaku this summer as new manager Antonio Conte wants the forward to help deliver the goals for Inter. United have put a steep asking price of about £80 million on the forward and the Italian side are proposing a direct player swap.
Icardi is regarded as a world-class forward with the Argentine hitman one of the deadliest players in the six-yard box. However, he has a reputation for causing controversy majorly due to his wife and agent Wanda Nara.
It is understood that United rejected the player swap proposal from Inter Milan as the club does not want an unsettling presence in the dressing room next season. United prefer to receive the full transfer fee for Lukaku which could be used to bring in targets this summer.
Lukaku is thought to have his mindset on a move to Inter Milan after he was informed by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he would not be the number two striker for the club behind Marcus Rashford next season.
From the look of things, a deal is likely to be struck by both clubs in the coming days. We cannot also rule out the signing of Icardi as he is a genuine quality talent.
