Personal terms agreed: Arsenal on the brink of making an announcement

Arsenal are reportedly set to make their first signing of the season as they are close to signing Lorient ace Alexis Claude-Maurice.

It had been reported that the Gunners had been interested in the French youngster some weeks back but it looks like the English side have finally secured the transfer.

Reports from France claim that Claude-Maurice wants a move to the Emirates and is keen on playing for Unai Emery.

The France u21 international is regarded as one of the next rising stars in France and has caught the eye of several clubs.

Skysports had earlier claimed that ten clubs were interested in the player with the Premier League trio of West Ham, Brighton and Newcastle mentioned.

Arsenal have the draw as the big club and the financial muscle despite the current restraint on their budget to complete a deal with Lorient.

Former Arsenal ace Jeremie Aliadiere believes that the Gunners should make a move for the youngster.

According to him the limited budget for the club means that they have to go for younger players that could develop into quality players.

He also believes that Claude-Maurice is the right player for the club as he is extremely quick and possesses technical ability.

“For the money that we talk about I think he’ll make it,”  “It’s about taking a gamble now when other teams aren’t prepared to.

“The market has gone so crazy in the last few years. If you want a top-level international it’s nothing cheaper than £40m.

“If they’ve only got £45m to spend you’ve got to shop differently, go a bit younger and sign players from second divisions. He’s a good player and has really good qualities.

“At a club like Arsenal that gives chances to young players, it would be a good step for him.”

It remains to be seen if the player would make the move to England ahead of next season.
