Arsenal have suffered a setback in their chase for FC Lorient forward Alexis Claude-Maurice but are still keen on signing the highly-rated forward this summer.
It is reported that Lorient have rejected a second bid from Arsenal for their star teenager. The Gunners first tabled a £6.1m offer for the attacker, but had to up their bid to around £14m which has been thrown out of the window.
However, fresh report can confirm that Arsenal are preparing a third bid for Claude-Maurice believed to be around £18m. The French club are insisting on a fee close to £19m for the French U-20 international who will be hoping to reunite with former teammate Mattéo Guendouzi.
Guendouzi teased the Arsenal fans on social media when he posted a picture alongside Claude-Maurice sometime last month. It is also suggested that the Arsenal player also acted his part in convincing his pal to agree terms with the north London club.
Arsenal are reported to have agreed personal terms with the striker’s representatives and all that is left is for both clubs to reach an agreement.
Arsenal recently released Danny Welbeck and it is believed that Claude-Maurice would fill that position if he completes the move.
The 21-year-old was impressive in the Ligue 2 where he scored 17 goals in 35 league appearances for Lorient.
