Arsenal have been linked with the signing of Brazilian hotshot Gabriel Martinelli in the past few months. According to reports from Brazil the Gunners are close to unveiling the player as the first transfer of the summer.
Reputable Brazilian website Globo Esparto reports that the player is on his way to London to finalise the deal after he turned 18 on Thursday. The Brazilian youngster is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the South American country.
The report further clarifies that the Gunners had been working on signing the forward since the end of last year. It looks like the long wait for the player is over as Martinelli is expected to be unveiled at the Emirates in the coming days.
There had been claims that Martinelli had travelled to Italy earlier in the year to request for an Italian passport, which would mean that he would be able to play for the club without the problems of getting a work permit.
If this were true he would be available to play in the first team as soon as he completes his £6 million move from Ituano.
Arsenal have offered the forward a five-year contract as they hope that he would develop into the sort of world-class player like compatriots Neymar and Coutinho.
The Gunners are also set to announce former midfielder Edu Gaspar as their new Sporting Director, it would be no surprise if the club signs more Brazilian players in the next few transfer windows.
