German stopper Markus Schubert had been linked with a move to join Arsenal some weeks back but the transfer looked to be over after reports suggested that Schalke had hijacked the move.
However, the latest developments suggest that there could be a late twist. The Independent had earlier revealed that Arsenal are yet to finalize a move for the 21-year-old stopper but had begun talking to clubs interested in loaning the player next season.
This conflicted with reports from Germany which suggested that Schubert was on the brink of signing for Schalke. However, trusted German media outlets appears to concur with the Independent as it revealed that Arsenal would have to pay £500,000 to sign the player.
Schubert is out of contract and available on a free transfer, however, any club interested in signing him will be required to pay a compensation fee to Dynamo Dresden. This is because he spent his teenage years at the club.
Meanwhile, Schubert’s girlfriend appeared to give Arsenal supporters a transfer hint of where he would be headed to. She posted a picture on Twitter where she posed in an Arsenal shirt suggesting that the Emirates is the likely destination for the German stopper.
Schubert is expected to become the second or third choice goalkeeper at Arsenal after the retirement of Petr Cech this season. He would be faced with tough competition from fellow country man Bernd Leno who currently occupies the number one spot.
