Manchester United are keen on Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff as his transfer takes a new twist.

English tabloid The Chronicle Live reports that Newcastle are holding out for an amount  that would surpass the biggest fee ever received by the club.

The Toons record sale is £35 million which Liverpool paid for Andy Caroll in 2013. If these reports are true that means that the Magpies want around £40 million for the defender.

Longstaff was one of the outstanding players from last season before suffering a horrific knee injury that cut short his campaign.  The 21-year-old is currently weighing his future after the exit of manager Rafa Benitez.

It is also thought that the lure of playing for one of the biggest teams in England is also a major factor for the transfer.

Longstaff is seen as a long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic in the midfield. If a move is made he would be the third British player to make the switch to United this summer.

Newcastle are looking to collect premium value for the player despite the midfielder currently valued at around £6.9 million according to analytics website TransferMarkt

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly told the Man United board that he wants the Engliahman at the club.and here’s how Longstaff would upon joining Man United.
