Picture: Frank Lampard Spotted At Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are getting closer to announcing Frank Lampard as their new manager after he was spotted at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. The Blues have been negotiating with Derby County for the tactician after the departure of manager Maurizio Sarri to Juventus last month.

Lampard is regarded as one of the modern managers and enjoyed an excellent debut season in his managerial career. The 41-year-old led Derby County to the Championship promotion playoff where they narrowly lost to Derby County in a 2-1 defeat.

It was reported that a fee of £5 million had been paid to Derby County for his services and he would be announced this week.

A picture of the former England international surfaced on Twitter showing him greeting some members of the backroom staff.

Lampard is expected to sign long-term contract with the club and is tasked with building a team that can challenge for the title. Chelsea’s transfer ban means that the club will give him a free rein to make key decisions as the club over the next two seasons.

Meanwhile, the Blues have retained the services of midfielder Mateo Kovacic after completing his transfer from Real Madrid.

Kovacic spent last season on-loan at the club making 53 appearances without scoring. It would be interesting to see how Lampard deploys the Croatia international.
