Liverpool have made an initial offer of £40 million for Sporting Lisbon ace Bruno Fernandes. Italian tabloid Correio da Manha claims that the Reds have made their attempt to sign the player under the noses of Man United and ManCity.
Fernandes enjoyed his best campaign, netting 20 goals and providing 13 assists for his teammates. His impact will be huge at Anfield as he is expected to be a direct replacement for Coutinho.
Fernandes would be able to contribute vital goals at Anfield while keeping things stable in midfield and he could also play as a second striker if the need arises.
There had been rumours that Sporting Lisbon want £80 million for the player but he is expected to make a move for £10m less.
Fernandes would fit alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. The 24-year-old has said it in a recent interview he prefers England than other countries.
The Reds face competition for Fernandes’ signature as the likes of Manchester United are in deep negotiations with the player and his club.
It remains to be seen what Sporting Lisbon does with his application. Fernandes remains a good passer but it remains to be seen how he thrives in the EPL.
