Kieran Tierney is likely to make the switch to Arsenal this summer on the assumption that reports from the English media are true.
It is reported that Arsenal are confident of agreeing a deal for the Celtic left-back which would see the player complete the move for a fee around £18m.
Celtic, however, are reportedly holding out for £25m but may have to reach a compromise if Tierney turns in a transfer request.
Sky Sports Football expert, Charlie Nicolas who is also an ex Arsenal player has revealed that Tierney wants a new challenge amidst keen interest from Arsenal.
“The stories I’m hearing here in Glasgow is that he might be keen to move on to the bigger league, if that’s really what it’s about, the bigger league,” he told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“Would that make him a better player? Probably.
“There is a question mark about his defensive frailties but then again he would be an improvement for Arsenal, there’s no doubt in my mind about that.”
This is good news for the Arsenal fans as Tierney’s interest could hasten the deal. He was close to joining Everton last summer after both clubs agreed a £25m deal but the turned down the chance, stating that he was happy at Scotland.
Everton are reportedly back for the player but will face stiff competition from Arsenal who have tabled a second bid for Tierney and are said to have offered him a £70,000-per-week contract.
According to Metro, Unai Emery wants the Scotland international at Arsenal who can also play in the centre back position. The manager is on the lookout for quality players and has made Arsenal’s defensive setup his priority ahead of the 2019/20 season.
It remains to be seen whether £18m would be enough to sign Tierney amidst keen interest from Everton.
